Riverside Cottage, Newbattle Abbey

ACT is working with Newbattle Abbey College to restore the currently under used A listed David Bryce Cottage on the edge of the estate. Upon completion, the cottage will provide accommodation for a 'Writer in Residence'. The College will work with Unesco's City of Literature to provide a safe haven for persecuted writers from Eastern Europe.

ACT prepared a project brief and helped the College procure a design team for the project and assisted with the development of proposals to RIBA Stage D to enable grant applications for funding to Historic Scotland (indicative offer received) and the Heritage Lottery Fund (decision pending) to be submitted on behalf of the College.

Pending the successful outcome of project funding, it is hoped that the project will be complete in 2009.
